The Niagara Region Ventures Fund is backed by the Buffalo and Erie County Regional Development Corporation, a not-for-profit Local Development Corporation established in 1979 to provide financial assistance to growth orientated companies within Erie County, New York.

Initial funding was provided by the following federal or local agencies:

• U.S. Economic Development Administration - $7,000,000 - 63% of the total funding
• County of Erie - $2,316,000 - 21% of the total funding
• City of Buffalo - $1,800,000 - 16% of the total funding
